Fact-checking and corrections
Before a guide is published
An editor who did not write the draft goes through it line by line with the sources open. For each claim they ask: does the linked page actually say this, for this situation, in these numbers? If not, the claim is corrected or cut.
- Code requirements are checked against the code section we cite, and we note that local amendments may differ.
- Product behavior (for example, how a water heater’s thermostat or a toilet fill valve works) is checked against the manufacturer’s manual.
- Water-use and energy numbers are checked against EPA or Department of Energy pages.
- The title, meta description and structured data get the same check as the body text.
- AI-assisted drafts get extra scrutiny, because AI tools can produce confident errors.
What reviewers add
Our reviewers are licensed plumbers. They catch advice that is technically sourced but wrong in practice, and they may add tips from their own work. Anything they add appears in words they wrote or approved.
